“Jillian Opts for Normal” on the Bachelorette

by

ej67uoOne more time, here’s Sandy the Reality TV Guru with one last installment for The Bachelorette.

Well it seemed like the longest show in Bachelorette history, and it was certainly chock full of the drama and bad acting that we’ve come to expect from this show, but it finally came to an end on the big island of Hawaii. And while the ending had been hyped up with twists and confessions and a crazy last 5 minutes, as usual, it played out exactly as the spoilers claimed it would with no surprises whatsoever.

Just a brief recap here because there’s really nothing to bother pointing out on the last show. They all go off pretty much the same. Jillian’s parents and her cousin came down to Hawaii and first up they met Normal Ed. Once again. Ed was laying it on thick about how much he loves Jillian. Told her family this and pretty much asked her Dad if he was okay with him asking Jillian to marry him. Like I said in an earlier review, Ed stepped it up pretty good when he returned from his little break, for whatever reason he returned home, and decided that he was going to ask Jillian to marry him pretty much from that time on.

In another tasteless move, the producers just had to make sure that we were aware that Jillian and Ed spent the night together on their last and final date and everything went “very well“. Now I’ve been watching this show for a long time and they have never indicated this on the final date. In fact, I don’t think they’ve ever done that. It is a tasteless move having the Bachelorette spend the night with both guys again right before getting engaged to one of them and they’ve always shown the couple saying goodbye to each other at the end of that final date. But then nothing seems to have gone according to plan on this installment. If you remember, Jillian also had the chance to spend the night with these guys at final 4. And from all indications, she only did this with Ed. She had the opportunity at final 3 and I believe she sampled a couple more of them at this point and apparently she had the opportunity again at final 2. Girl got a lot of action during the filming of this show.

So after her “successful” evening with Ed, Jillian introduces Kiptyn to her “fahmily” (again, I have no idea where that accent comes from). Her cousin Tori’s eyes light up when she sees Kiptyn. It’s no contest who she thinks Jillian should pick. And I just don’t get it. I don’t think Kiptyn is all that attractive and he had his shirt on so I can’t see what drew her cousin in. Maybe she’ll try out for the next Bachelor when they announce that it’s Kiptyn. Anyway, Jillian’s dad asks Kiptyn if he is in love with her and Kiptyn dodged that question with a lot of talk about nothing and a lot of finesse really. At this point, there is no question which one of these guys she’s going to pick. And while they did insinuate that she and Kiptyn spent the night together on that final date, I’m thinking no. I believe she’d already made up her mind at that point and I’d like to think she had a little more tact than to sleep with the second place guy the night before the big engagement.

We move on to the big day and we’ve yet to see Reid make an appearance. And we know that he’s going to so the whole time I was more preoccupied with how they were going to fit Reid into the final ceremony. Kiptyn showed up first as expected and said a bunch of stuff that no guy would say without reading it off a cue card and she turned him down and he left. He never got down on one knee, never pulled that ring out of his pocket but just got the heck out of there as fast as he could. Quick limo ride with Kiptyn all heartbroken and blah blah blah. Kiptyn was absolutely fine folks. He was slated for final 2 for quite some time and he was just going through the motions. Then the van/taxi showed up and I knew we were getting our big dramatic confession and proposal from Reid.

I have to admit I really like Reid. I wish they’d bring him in as the next Bachelor. I’ve said before that he’s cute and quirky and I think if he had his own Bachelor show it would be a fun time. So he gets out of the taxi in his wrinkled clothes that are supposed to make it look like he threw a jacket over what he was wearing on the plane because he rushed back and all. Don’t buy it. He never left Hawaii. They knew this was going to happen as soon as he was cut. Not sure at this point who’s idea it was, and maybe Reid really did think he needed to tell Jillian how he felt, but you can bet this wasn’t the way he wanted to do it. So as Jillian is standing on the podium expecting the love of her life Ed to show up, out walks Reid. And her reaction said it all. She knew he was coming and it was set up. Honestly, this is Jillian we’re talking about. There is no doubt in my mind that if they had surprised her with Reid and his declaration of love at that moment, she would have screamed cut at the cameras and a thousand cuss words at the producers and anyone else within ears range. There is no way that she would have just stood there and let this happen completely unexpectedly. She’s got way more spunk than that. Anyway, Reid comes back as predicted, proclaims his love for Jillian and gets down on one knee and proposes. She thinks it over with the ever helpful Chris Harrison and goes back out and turns him down. He leaves rejected once again. I think that’s the first time in Bachelorette history that we’ve seen two rejected limo rides with the same person. But it wasn’t a limo, it was that tacky van/taxi thing that supposedly brought him in from the airport….on his own dime….yeah okay.

After all the drama that wasn’t really drama at all and had been spoiled weeks ago, Ed finally shows up. And the last five minutes that Jillian had promised would be the best and craziest of the show were as predictable as….well Kiptyn being the next Bachelor. Ed proclaimed his love, asked her to proclaim hers, got down on one knee and proposed. Jillian let out her famous dolphin squeal and….CUT. That’s a wrap.

I am a little surprised that I picked Ed for her from the very first time he opened his mouth and he ended up being the final guy. I guess the others really were that bad. Well except for Jake….and maybe Reid. I can say one thing though, if any of the rumours of Ed going back home in the middle of the show to break up with a girlfriend are true, as a couple they’re going to be in for a bumpy ride. But who’d expect anything less from this show?
