Complete Brady Bunch on DVD

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

bradybunch-complete.jpgI grew up watching The Brady Bunch in syndication on UHF stations in Philly. As an only child I always found it fascinating that all those kids were able to not beat the crap out of each other like all the other big families I knew. Of course that was before I knew about writers and acting and stuff like that. Oh, and yeah, I had a little crush on Peter. But I digress.

It would be cool to watch all the best episodes in a marathon: The “football in the nose” episode”, the “see saw” episode, the “Bobby becomes a pool shark” episode, the “Mike loses his job and ends up pimping out Marsha” episode*. You can do that soon according to TVShowsOnDVD.com:

CBS/Paramount has announced the complete set of The Brady Bunch. Unfortunately all we have is the box art and the street date: March 27, 2007. We have no idea if there is any added material or what that box is made out of.

Brady Bunch Complete Collection Box

Green shag is genius. At least thats what it seems to me to be. But whatever. I think there will most likely be some great extras. I am also hoping for a blooper reel and maybe a Brady movie. “The Brady Brides”? Or the pilot of “The Bradys” where Bobby is a race car driver and ends up in a wheelchair? Good times.

*May not have been an actual episode.

Rainn Wilson & Bob Odenkirk Together

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

244wilsonrainn100606.jpgEverybody’s favorite toadie from The Office has a new project in the works according to E! News:

Rainn Wilson is about to become MTV Films’ Servant of Justice. He stars as a guy who serves subpoenas with the aplomb of a James Bond in Kanan Rhodes: Unkillable Servant of Justice. Wilson created the big-screen comedy with writer-director Bob Odernick, who takes his position behind the camera in May, during Wilson’s hiatus from The Office.

Wow. I am a HUGE Odenkirk fan. Mr. Show is one of the funniest shows ever created. Rainn Wilson is creepily funny.
You got creepy in my funny. I got funny in your creepy. Together they taste like comedy genius!

Yvonne DeCarlo Passes Away

Yvonne DeCarlo, known to almost everyone born after 1970 as Lili Munster from the show The Munsters, has passed away of natural causes at the age of 84.

I was never a big fan of The Munsters. I was always an Addam’s Family girl, but for some reason (I am suspected cheaper prices for stations to buy the syndication rights) The Munsters were always on in the summertime when I was a kid in the 80’s. While I was not a fan, I did like Yvonne as Lili, she played it like a 50’s tv mom but with a funny, quirky twist that never really was over the top (and really would have been expected since they were, you know, monsters).

Yvonne grew up in Canada with her mom, took all sorts of lessons and danced her way to LA where she had contract as a bit player at the major studios. She married a stunt man, Bob Morgan (a big name in the stunt industry at the time), and had two sons. When her husband was shooting “How The West Was Won”, Bob had an accident involving the train and he lost a leg. Yvonne stopped working and took care of him. They later divorced.

While some actors hit a wall in, say, television, and just stop working, Yvonne would just switch gears. She sung opera, did theatre and movies as well. She is very well known as Moses’ wife in The Ten Commandments! A lot of actors would be mad that they are pigeonholed as one particular character. Not DeCarlo. She was thrilled that it breathed new life into her career and millions of kids knew who she was and loved her for it. Not bad for a show that only ran for 2 seasons. Thats a lesson many actors today should take note of.

So, god speed Lili Munster!
I hope you and Herman and Grandpa are having a good time brewing up something special somewhere with cool cobwebs and a dragon under the steps!

It All Started At A 5,000 Watt Radio Station In Fresno, California…

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Hello Everyone!

My name is Nicole and I will be your guide thru this vast land known as Watching Sitcoms.

Who am I?
Well.

I was born watching tv. I smacked the doctor who delivered me because he wouldn’t hand over the remote. Well, that’s a lie, as there were
no remotes when I was born. You had to drag your fat behind over to the dial and flip around. But still….you get my metaphor.

I have a soft spot in my heart for sitcoms (a medical condition thats treatable…). I love anything that can make me laugh whether intentional or not. What makes me mad is a show that doesn’t even try, that sleepwalks thru it’s seasons for one reason or another (network interference, bad writers, conflicts, whatever).

I stand for:
Shows out there that never got the attention they deserved and shows out there that got attention that they didn’t deserve.
Box sets of new shows. News that needs to be out there.
Actors that need a spotlight (and ones that should be drug out of it).
Behind the scenes people who you see the names of but never really get to know that are the lynch pins of the series, and much more.

I hope all of you out there will join me in laughing and….maybe a little learning.
Because learning…is half the battle.
(Go Joe.)

PS,
Please feel free to go to town in the comments sections!
If I am right, let me know, if not, let me know that too!
If you remember a show you want info on, or whatever, let me know!
Mostly because, well, my tinfoil hat is in the shop.
