American Idol Wild Card Show
This is the night we get the Top 12 on American Idol. Despite the fact that the show has been annoying so far this year, I’m still excited to watch tonight. Maybe it’s because they’ve been so very vague about what’s going to happen. And maybe it also has something to do with how predictable it’s been up til now.
Based on the order tonight, it’s clear that Anoop, in the pimp spot, is going through. Of course, this is all based on the judges, so I guess that doesn’t really matter.
First up is Jesse Langseth singing Tell Me Something Good, Rufus (feat. Chaka Khan). It was OK, but not the best ever. My husband said it was Hot. I do like that song, but I’m not sold on her talent. However, if we need another girl in the Top 12, she might not be a bad choice, cause at least she’ll be interesting.
Matt Giraud is up next. I like him, but he really didn’t show up last time. Now he is singing Who’s Loving You, The Jackson Five. Not that well known of a song, but it really allows him to show off his bluesiness. I’m not actually sure if this will save him or not, though, cause it might have been a little over the top. (Wow, see Kara agrees with me.)
I write my posts as the show is happening. Its crazy how often the judges repeat something I’ve just written, like they can actually see me. I know it probably comes across as me repeating what they’ve said. But I don’t. I really, really don’t.
Megan Corkery sings Black Horse and The Cherry Tree, KT Tunstall. I don’t like her voice and style at all and I’m not fond of this song, either, for that matter. No, no, you’re not the one for me either, Megan. I know she thinks she’s all that, but I don’t see it. The judges like her cause she’s a cute blond, but I don’t think they are gonna want her to split the vote with Alexis Grace.
Now we have Von Smith, previously known as Shouty McShouterson (or something close to that). He gave us something softer this past week, but honestly, I’ve never seen anything from him that I liked. Tonight he’s singing Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, Elton John. Elton seems to be really well represented this year. Did Idol buy up his whole song book? No, I didn’t like this either. Somehow, from the first note, it was just not right for me. I believe it is going to be a sad, sad situation for poor little Shouty. (I wonder if I can do that with every song they sing tonight. Probably not.)
Jasmine Murray is 17 years old. Did you know that? They just love to tell you how young people are on this show, don’t they? She’s singing Reflection, Christina Aguilera, which makes me think of The Little Mermaid, except I think it was some other Disney movie. I don’t care so I’m not gonna look it up. This was just OK, but it makes me think of a little girl standing in her living room and singing along to the DVD.
Ricky Braddy really should have gone through last time. I hope he does as well tonight as he did last time. He’s singing Superstition, Stevie Wonder. And he does. This guy is really good and he should be in the Top 12. They may be concerned that he’s competition for Danny Gokey.
Tatiana del Toro is up next. It sounds like her accent is way more pronounced tonight than it ever has been. Who is this girl? Tatiana is singing Saving All My Love For You, Whitney Houston. Its scary, but she really does have a nice voice and is actually able to pull off Whitney. The lower notes are a little weak, but overall its not bad, including the ending glory note. It’s nice, but maybe its not enough to get her through to the Top 12. She would make the show more fun.
Anoop Desai holds the pimp spot. As I said, I guess that is immaterial insofar as America is not voting tonight, but I still think it’s just something that they do. They put the person they like the best in the last position. I am glad they brought him back cause I like him and I think he belongs in the Top 12. He is singing My Perogative, Bobby Brown. Let’s see if the judges call Anoop on singing a song he sang before, cause I’m pretty sure he sang this back in Hollywood week. Clearly, the crowd loves Anoop.
If I was choosing three people from this group, it would be Ricky, Tatiana and Anoop. They were all good and all fun. But let’s see what the judges think.
So here we go. First up is Jasmine and she is going through. I’m really unhappy about that. We don’t need another Jordin Sparks Disney singer again.
Ricky Braddy is not going through. Unbelievable, are these judges deaf?
Megan and Tatiana are both on the stage together now. Megan is going through, Tatiana is not. OK, I get not putting Tatiana through, but Megan? If I have to look at her creepy smile and awkward dancing, and hear her weird toneless singing for too many weeks, I’m gonna be ill. No, really. If they wanted to put through an offbeat chick, couldn’t it at least have been Jesse?
Sometimes I just hate this show.
I did tell Laura that they were going to be putting lots of girls through, but she disagreed with me. I was hoping to be wrong, but clearly I’m not.
Jesse is next and she did not make it. Now Von’s hopes are dashed. Last up are Matt and Anoop. Matt makes it through.
I am completely surprised.
No, wait, it just got even more surprising. They are making this the Top 13 and Anoop is through!!!!
