Back to Burrell

by Toni

tyburrell.jpgOnce again, Ty Burrell steals the show as Gary, the anchorman who handles all the unwanted assignments on Back To You.

As far as the rest of the show goes, it does have it’s moments, but the bickering between Kelly and Chuck (Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer) is already getting a little old. One assumes it is all leading somewhere.

This week, Gary was carpooling (as part of Carpool Week) with Marsh, the sportscaster played by Fred Willard. Willard is also very funny, but Burrell just surpasses them all in my opinion. First he begs Montana, the weather reporter to take him in her car with them. “Please, I have money,” he tells her in a desperate tone. Then, “Goodbye, Montana. Goodbye, Ryan. Goodbye, bees buzzing. Hello, guardrail. Oh, hi grandma!” I almost fell off my chair. Its not even what he is saying as much as how he delivers the lines and his hang dog facial expression.

The episode itself dealt more with Kelly and Chuck’s relationship with each other as well as with other people. Chuck accuses Kelly of being too rigid, and Kelly accuses Chuck of being rude, both of which accusations are probably true. At least Chuck is pretty insensitive. Although, he comes through in the end, foregoing a tryst with a beautiful woman (Tia Carrere) to take care of a drunken and lovelorn Ryan. I did think the way they had that woman falling all over him was simply an indication that Kelsey Grammer thinks he’s better looking than he really is. I mean, he’s not abhorrent or anything, but he is an old, bald guy. I just don’t see women like that chasing after someone like him.

Next week, I’d just like to see more scenes with Gary.

Isn’t Tia Carrere an old broad by now?

Yep, but she still looks really hot. Much better than Kelsey, that’s for sure.
