Black Rock Rules

by

supernatural.jpgI have a problem. Well, several actually, but the specific problem of which I speak here, is about Supernatural. The ep title last week was Bad Day at Black Rock. When Dean and Sam were discussing it, said that Black Rock was “outside of Buffalo.” Which is true, if you live in the early 1800’s. But some time ago, many, many years past (in 1853, actually), the town of Black Rock was completely and utterly swallowed up by the City of Buffalo. Now it’s a place on the west side, right next to Riverside. It’s not a bad area, but I probably wouldn’t hang out there alone after dark.

But the point is, it’s nothing at all like they portrayed it on the show. I guess they can do anything they want, it is a fantasy show after all, but why do something like that? If you want the story to take place in a little town or village outside of Buffalo, why not just pick some place that really is a little town or village outside of Buffalo? Well, I suppose they liked the ep title so they needed a town called Black Rock. But there are ways around that. They could have put the ep in Dundee, NY, which has a place called Black Rock Speedway, although that’s more outside of Syracuse than Buffalo. But its still in New York State.

Other Black Rock places they could have used include the ship on Lost, but since one show is on ABC and the other on the CW, I guess that’s out. There’s also a Black Rock in Hawaii, but it would be problematic for them to drive there. So I guess those aren’t really good choices. But I still think that they could have found a real place to set the ep.

I don’t mean to get all worked up over nothing, but it always bothers me when shows do that. I just think that there’s no reason for that sort of lie and it messes with the integrity of the show. Also, they said they could make it into Queens in two hours. If they were supposed to be in Buffalo at that point, they’d need a Learjet, cause Queens is over 400 miles from here, which on a good day, without a lot of traffic is gonna take 6 or 7 hours.

All I’m saying is, why not just glance at a map?
