Hulu Awards: They’re Not Over Yet

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

huluBack to the Hulu Awards. I’m actually going to lump a few together here, cause I got these polls at least a couple of weeks ago and I’m worried the voting might already be over. I got sidetracked with NY Comic Con and then I couldn’t think about anything else.

I do hope these polls are still valid for all of you who like to vote. I believe there are at least two more out there and I should have those soon.

So here goes. The first poll is is for Best Movie Studio. (Funnily, when I first typed that title in, I typed Best Studio Movie. Hmmmmm. That could be another category some day.) The nominees for Best Movie Studio are 20th Century Fox, MGM, Pix and Universal. You have to remember that this is based on the content for each studio on Hulu, so its all subjective. Here’s the poll:

The next category is for Best Major Network. Again, be reminded that it’s all about Hulu content, so be sure to check it all out on there. The nominees are Fox and NBC. Here’s the poll:

Finally, we have Worst Movie, which is a pretty broad category, but here goes. The nominees are Jackass 2.0, National Lampoon’s Spring Break, Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps, Planet of the Apes, Starship Troopers and Xanadu.

If you ask me, all of these movies suck. So it’s hard to say which one is the worst of them all. I chose Jackass 2.0 just cause I really hate that kinda random stupidness. Here’s the poll:

NY Comic Con: More Along Artist Alley

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

johnnobleAlso along the wall in the autograph area of Artist Alley were several more people. Some I even recognized. It was pretty much lunch time by now and we saw Robert Culp but he was eating so we went away and when we came back down past we had a chance to see him. He seemed nice, but a little distant. He looked older than I expected, but I think maybe it was just cause he was so thin. His cheeks looked hollow, if you know what I mean. Talking with him was a bit awkward, since even I’m not old enough to remember I Spy, Anne is too young for Greatest American Hero, and one can only talk about Everybody Loves Raymond for so long. We didn’t get an autograph, since he was charging.

Down that same table, there was also Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica). The line was kind of long at that point and since neither of us watch the show, we just moved on. Besides, after him was John Noble and Jasika Nicole from Fringe and that show I do watch. Jasika wasn’t at her spot - probably at lunch - but John was and the line wasn’t too long. I’m guessing cause (more…)

NY Comic Con: Getting There

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

curlsrockThey say getting there is half the battle, whoever they are. And I think they know what they’re talking about. So, we started our trip to New York City for Comic Con on Friday night after work. It wasn’t a very auspicious beginning, actually, because the glorified crossing guard that mans the x-ray machine at the airport - you know exactly what I’m talking about, don’t pretend you don’t - harshed my mellow by throwing out unopened bottles of water, a tube of toothpaste and my Catwalk Curls Rock Curl Amplifier. I got over everything but that. That bottle was only 4 oz, it was barely used and it costs $16! So I had to be at Comic Con all weekend with crummy, frizzy hair.

Then the plane was one of those little tiny things and we hardly fit side by side in the seats. The seat belt seemed unusually short, too. At first I thought it wasn’t going to fit around me. All I could think of was that we were going to get kicked off the plane cause I didn’t fit in the seat. Talk about losing your appetite.

Of course, that didn’t stop me from eating dinner at Juniors. We split a Something Different (thinly shaved brisket between big, thick, crispy potato pancakes with mushroom gravy and applesauce on the side) and we each had a big bowl of coffee. No, really, it looks like a bowl. So amazingly good.

Reminder: If you care, you should check out my other blog at Watching CW, where I’m also blogging about different Comic Con stuff.

NY Comic Con: The Online Tour

Monday, February 9th, 2009

comicconMy husband and I went to San Diego a few years ago and he chroncled the trip with video. We labeled it the Taco Tour based on the incredible amount of tacos eaten at all night taco places. (Yes, such places do exist, because you never know when you might need a taco.)

My trip to NY Comic Con is going to be labeled the Online Tour. Not becaue I’m blogging it, but cause we spent most of the two days standing in lines. (When I say we, I mean me and my new friend Anne. My husband firmly avoids all things geek. I met Anne through another writer on this network, Debbie, who blogs at Watching Heroes, and I am forever grateful, because we had a great time. Thanks for coming to Comic Con with me, Anne!)

So, first of all the Javitts Center is massive. MASSIVE. We had to keep running from side to side and up and down to get to the next thing, mostly just after the line was already at capacity for the room. So then you have to decide, do you want to wait and take your chances or go see something else you don’t want to miss. By the end of the first day, we were both really tired. Plus, my feet hurt.

It turned out that most of the things we wanted to see were also things that all the rest of the 70,000+ people wanted to see. At the exact same time. So there was lots of confusion and craziness, but all in a good way. We did get to see lots of really great stuff, though, and I’m gonna share. I did take pictures and videos, but mostly, they didn’t turn out too good. I think I need to take a class, like Photo Taking 101. Hopefully, Anne’s turned out better.

So here’s the plan. I’m gonna post several blogs over the next few days sharing different aspects of our experiences at Comic Con, and I’m going to do that between my two blogs, here and at Watching CW. I’m just doing it that way because I want to. So be sure to check over there as well.
