I’m in Trouble . . . I Need Help

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

So I sat down and wrote out a complete schedule of all the shows I want to watch coming up in the next few weeks and I realized something.  I’m not gonna be able to do it.  There just isn’t enough time in the day for it.  Especially since I went back to work full-time.  *sigh*

Here’s the breakdown:

Mondays (7 hours)
8:00 pm - Chuck (NBC), House (FOX), The Secret Life of the American Teenager (ABC Fam), The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
8:30 pm - How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
9:00 pm - Heroes (NBC), The Bachelor (ABC)

Tuesdays - (4 hours)
8:00 pm - 90210 (CW), American Idol (FOX)
9:00 pm - Fringe (FOX)
10:00 pm - Law and Order: SVU (NBC)

Wednesday (2 1/2-3 hours)
8:00 pm - American Idol (FOX), America’s Next Top Model (CW)
9:00 pm - Lost (ABC)

Thursday (4 hours)
8:00 pm - Bones (FOX), Smallville (CW)
9:00 pm - Kitchen Nightmares/Hell’s Kitchen (FOX), Supernatural (CW)

Friday (4 hours)
8:00 pm - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX)
9:00 pm - Dollhouse (FOX), Monk (USA)
10:00 pm - Psych (USA)

That’s over 20 hours of television. There is no way I’m fitting that all in, still working full-time, maintaining two blogs and having a life besides. Some shows are gonna have to go, but I just don’t know which ones. Monday is the worst. I was just coming around to being OK with the fact that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles had been banished to Fridays, mostly because Monday’s wouldn’t be so crowded anymore. Then they moved both House and The Secret Life to the same time slot on Monday. So now its gonna be even harder.

I guess I’ll just have to watch some shows online, since I can only DVR two things at a time. But when will I have time to watch these other shows. They kinda frown upon that sort of thing where I work. (”Gee, boss, I’m sorry, but I didn’t have any other free time to watch The Bachelor. I didn’t think you’d mind.”) *sigh*

I think I’m a TV junkie. I may need help.

Even More Shows Returning This Week

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

There are more returning shows this week. As a matter of fact, here is a link to a lovely A-Z list at TV Guide with every show you’d ever want to see and when it will be airing: TV Guide’s List.

On Tuesday, January 6, 2009, we have two returning shows. On the CW at 8:00 pm (ET) it’s 90210. I’m really looking forward to that show coming back. I just fell in love with it. Again, there’s the angst, along with all those pretty people in every one’s favorite Southern CA neighborhood. Plus, I keep living for the moment (more…)

What Am I Watching Now?

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I was talking to some friends about shows we watch in common, and it was pointed out to me that I watch a lot of TV. I didn’t really think so, well, I guess I did, but I didn’t think it was that noticable. Anyway, it got me to thinking about (more…)

Yes!! The Big Bang Gang is Back

Friday, September 19th, 2008

I’m so excited cause Big Bang Theory will be back on Monday, September 22, 2008. Finally a sitcom I can watch and talk about instead of all these other shows I’ve been reviewing, cause, well, I have to talk about something, right?

Not only is Big Bang Theory back starting at 8:00 pm ET, but CBS is also following with the season premieres of How I Met Your Mother, Two and Half Men and the series premiere of Worst Week. I know where I’ll be Monday night.

This is actually a big week for the sitcom, as Wednesday night, September 24, marks the season premiere (also on CBS) of The New Adventures of Old Christine at 8:00 pm ET, and the series premiere of Gary Unmarried at 8:30 pm ET. They are joined on Wednesday nights by the already started Til Death at 9:00 pm and Do Not Disturb at 9:30 pm on FOX.

Then on Thursday, September 25, we have the season premiere of My Name is Earl on NBC at 8:00 pm ET, followed by another new episode of Earl at 8:30 pm ET, and then the hour-long season premiere of The Office at 9:00 pm ET.

I know people keep saying the sitcom is dead, and maybe that’s true of the good old fashioned family sitting in the living room with their TV dinners watching together kinda sitcom, but perhaps there’s a new form of situation comedy for now.

Another new show that’s premiering this week, which is not a sitcom, but I wanted to mention anyway, is The Mentalist, which airs on Tuesday, September 23 at 9:00 pm ET on CBS. Apparently, its the story of a former fake psychic who uses his heightened observation abilities to assist the police in solving crimes. Can you say Psych, anyone?

Don’t Forget Hulu

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

psych_monk.jpgEven when I didn’t have any actual sitcom stuff to blog about, I used to at least talk about what I was watching. But as it turns out, I’m not watching much of anything. Mostly cause there’s nothing much on to watch right now. Well, there is Doctor Who (on Fridays at 9 pm ET on SciFi), which still has a few more weeks. But other than that, its all repeats.

Luckily, next Friday, July 18, is the start of the seventh season of Monk and the third season of Psych on USA, at 9 pm and 10 pm ET, respectively. In the meantime, remember there’s always hulu.com, where you can watch all sorts of sitcoms and other shows as well. I went through the list tonight, just to see how many sitcoms were actually on there. I counted 8, just in the A’s and the B’s. I had actually started watching Arrested Development and I haven’t finished, so maybe I can keep busy with that until next Friday.

I also noticed that they had ALF on there. I have an ALF story. Back when ALF was on, it was opposite MacGyver (which, unfortunately, is not on hulu). I loved MacGyver, but didn’t care for ALF, however, my mom insisted on watching ALF, even though she generally fell asleep during it and I ended up watching it alone. There’s actually no moral to that story, or even much of a point, it’s just that I always remember that when I think of ALF.

Oh, there are also a few eps of both Monk and Psych on hulu as well. Hopefully, there’s enough to keep us all busy until Fall.

Friday Nights Are New Again

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

psych-20060630021651299.jpg
So last Friday started up new eps of Monk and Psych on USA. I’m happy that the new season (or the second half of the season, with all new eps) has started. I watched Psych first cause I was busy watching Moonlight at 9 pm.

I really love Psych. I forget that sometimes, cause it seems like there’s just a few new eps before it’s all over and then such a long time between new eps. But whatever, I’m over it.

The entire cast is just so funny. They all seem so perfectly in tune with each other so that everything is right on cue. The ep itself, about Gus having been married once before and now his wife wants a divorce, was pretty funny, but it was made even funnier by the antics and repartee of Shawn and Gus. I think maybe one of the things I like the most about it, is that it’s just quietly good. It’s not one of those loud splashy shows that makes a big deal about itself and wants everyone to know.

Monk, on the otherhand, was just OK. Somehow I expected better. Maybe it was the topic or just that I saw it after Psych and when I was tired, but it wasn’t too funny. I guess I really needed funny. The ep was about a cult leader that the police believed had murdered a young girl who ran away from the commune. The ep was just so seriouis, Monk gets sucked into the cult, denounces his love for Trudy and turns from his friends. I just couldn’t find the funny in that. Hopefully, this week will be better.
