Dr. Horrible DVD
I’m so happy. I just got my Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog DVD. And it’s amazing. Well, I mean, obviously, I’ve seen the show like a gazillion times since it came out in July. (Also, I’ve listened to the CD so many times I can’t even put a number to it.) But now I get to watch Dr. Horrible, live, in color, on my big screen TV. I get to see them singing, while I listen in surround sound. It’s like I’m living in a dream.
I love it. No, no, really. I just love it. I want more. And, lucky me, the DVD gives me more. Not only are there some behind the scenes interviews and stuff like that, there are also audition videos from other villains as they attempt to get into the Evil League of Evil.
Here’s a little glimpse of one of the interviews:
But the best thing, in my opinion, and worth the price of the DVD ($10.49, exclusively at Amazon) several times over, is the commentary. Yes, there is a normal commentary (well, normal for this group anyway, which must be graded on a curve even on a good day), but also there’s a special commentary. It’s Commentary: The Musical.
I’m not sure, maybe you need to be a die hard, rabid Whedon fan - like myself - to really appreciate it, but I loved it instantly, and after only two watch throughs, I am already singing the songs. Repeatedly, in my sleep. (Alright, fine, I watched it three times. But I’ve had the DVD for two whole days already.)
Probably the best part of the best part is that the musical commentary generally has little to nothing to do with the action on the screen. It does sometimes, and then it surprises you, how all this random randomness manages to lock into place so well. But that’s the genius of Joss and his clan.
I don’t want to tell you everything about it, though, because it will spoil the surprise, but if you don’t have it. Go get it. Now!!!!
And, um, Joss, when do we get a CD for Commentary: The Musical. I need it soon.
