Kath & Kim, Here’s My Take
Did I say Worst Week was bad? Well, it was, but even so it didn’t hold a candle to Kath & Kim in its badness quotient. I had read about the Aussie show that Kath & Kim was apparently taken from, and that show sounded interesting, or at least funny. This show was bad. Really, really bad.
I honestly can’t tell you what the show was about, since I only made it through about a third of the show before I had to turn it off. I had mostly tuned out what I saw, too. Or maybe I’ve just now blocked them out of my mind. OK, I kinda remember the story. Annoying, whiny, thinks-she’s-a-princess, Kim (Selma Blair), leaves her new marriage to come home, only to find that her mother, Kath (Molly Shannon) has remade her bedroom into a Curves. Her reason for leaving her husband? He wanted her to do stuff, like cook dinner.
I guess the fact that they are both so low class and stupid is supposed to be funny. But I just found it really dull and overly embarrasing. I don’t think it’s the fault of Blair or Shannon, I just think that the premise doesn’t work well in the US. Honestly, I saw a clip of the Aussie version and it was just as low brow and silly, but somehow, it came across as humorous in a way that the US version could not match.
Maybe I’m overestimating the intelligence of US audiences, but I can’t imagine this show will be around for too long.

I heard the producers of Kath and Kim fired 12 hairdressers so far. Maybe they should have fired the writers. Duh! There is not a hairstylist in the world who could help the pathetic writing. Who ever the producers are should quit picking on the crew and get new writers. What a bunch of idiots the producers must be if they cant see whats really the problem and try to blame innocent crew people because they dont want to admit its just plan old bad writing.

Hi Sara, thanks for your comments. I totally agree with you. We know that the actors are good, cause we’ve seen them before, so its not their acting, its not their hair styles, its not their clothes, or even the sets. Its the terrible, terrible writing that they are forced to work with. Hopefully, someone pulls the plug on this show soon.
