More Random Idol Thoughts
OK, this is happening every week now. I keep having all these American Idol thoughts with no where to go. So I’m bringing them all to you, gentle readers.
First of all, don’t the Top 5 usually sing two songs a piece? I tried to work it out by going back and looking, but it was too confusing since they don’t date when they sang each song and I really can’t recall exactly. I just remember Jason Castro struggling with the two song thing and getting knocked out at fourth place. Also, I have this vague memory of being upset because Constantine Maroulis was knocked out in sixth place, a week before he would have been able to sing two songs. Look, this is how I figure things out and it’s gotten me this far in life, so don’t judge me.
Aside of all the arguing last night, Laura and I were also debating whether or not any Idol this season has had a defining moment. Not even just for themselves, but just overall, has there been a “moment” on the show this entire season. OK, fine, Adam lives large every single week. But I’m taking him out of the equation, cause I don’t want to grade on a curve.
Anyway, we were chatting about different moments each year, when someone really made the world sit up and go “Wow!” Even non-fans. For instance, Jason, he did that with Hallelujah. Constantine did it with Bohemian Rhapsody. Carrie Underwood and Alone. Bo Bice and Whipping Post.
Those are just a few off the top of my head. The only song either of us could come up with for this season (sans Adam) was Anoop Desai’s take on My Perogative, which made me love him, only to be sadly disappointed once he hit the Top 13. But if Anoop’s defining moment, way back in Hollywood week was the defining moment of this entire season, what the heck are we still doing watching this show? Oh, right, to see what crazy thing Adam Lambert is going to do next.
Then, my friend Sandy and I were discussing Adam. We all know he’s basically in his own league on Idol this year, but she’s worried that he’s given everything he has already and we still have 3 more weeks to get through. I guess it’s possible he will be a shock elimination at some point, maybe even this week, when it’s not possible to save him. Maybe that was even the plan. I’m not positive Adam should even want to win this competition, cause I’m pretty sure (as sure as I can be with the machinations of any one else’s mind) that he does not want to sing whatever dreck they are going to force on him for his first album.
At this point, where ever Adam falls out of this, he is going to land on his feet. He is amazingly talented and I honestly think he has a lot more to give. Granted, he did seem slightly more over the top this week than he has in recent memory, but that’s still OK, cause it allows him to pull it back and be very subdued the next time. It’s like a game of cat and mouse. And you can guess who the cat is.
One last thing before I leave. Go visit this blog - Negative Neil - not because he’s Adam Lambert’s brother (which he really is), but because he’s incredibly amusing and talented and funny and you’ll enjoy it. I do. Wait, on second thought, don’t go there. Cause he’s so inundated right now he’s feeling self-conscious so he doesn’t update enough. I wish he would. I also wish he’d direct some of that traffic back here, cause I could use the page views.
