No Reservations
I just saw that movie, No Reservations. It was on HBO On Demand, and I was looking forward to it. (I usually look ahead, just to see what’s coming so I don’t miss something I want to see.) From the trailers, it looked like a good romantic comedy. I expected some light fluffy fun. Instead, I was bored and a little depressed.
Honestly, there was no chemistry between the leads at all, and the movie had little, if anything, that was funny about it. Catherine Zeta Jones is beautiful, but her slight accent was getting on my nerves, and she barely had any expression on her face throughout the entire movie. Abigail Breslin, as the little girl was adorable - when she cried, I cried - but I thought they might have used someone a little bit younger in the role. I’m not sure why I feel that way, it just seemed like she should have been younger somehow. Aaron Eckhart seemed like he might be good, he gave me hope that the movie might pick up, but it didn’t. The movie was filled with long, dull silences or swelling opera music. I’m not anti-opera, but I would have preferred them to spend that time letting us get to know the characters, who were all stiff and underdeveloped. In spite of a great cast, great supporting cast and a heart warming storyline, the movie didn’t work. It just plodded along and never really took off.
I was really disappointed in this movie. The whole time I watched it I kept thinking of how much better it could have been.
