NY Comic Con: More Along Artist Alley
Also along the wall in the autograph area of Artist Alley were several more people. Some I even recognized. It was pretty much lunch time by now and we saw Robert Culp but he was eating so we went away and when we came back down past we had a chance to see him. He seemed nice, but a little distant. He looked older than I expected, but I think maybe it was just cause he was so thin. His cheeks looked hollow, if you know what I mean. Talking with him was a bit awkward, since even I’m not old enough to remember I Spy, Anne is too young for Greatest American Hero, and one can only talk about Everybody Loves Raymond for so long. We didn’t get an autograph, since he was charging.
Down that same table, there was also Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica). The line was kind of long at that point and since neither of us watch the show, we just moved on. Besides, after him was John Noble and Jasika Nicole from Fringe and that show I do watch. Jasika wasn’t at her spot - probably at lunch - but John was and the line wasn’t too long. I’m guessing cause he was charging $25 per autograph. It was fun to meet him though. He does not look like Walter. I mean, he’s just different. In person, he was tall and thin and younger looking than Walter, who always appears, shorter and a bit stocky and, well, old. Of course, because I have no filter on my brain, I blurt out, “You’re tall!” He says, with an adorable little Australian accent, “Yes, I am.” Moron. No, he didn’t say that, but I’m sure he was thinking it. Actually, he was very nice and we had a pleasant conversation. I mentioned that the Con had scheduled their panel overlapping with the Dollhouse autograph signing so we might not be able to make it. (This was when I was still optomistic enough to think I could get an actual ticket to the autograph signing.) Even he was like, What? Why would they do that? We all wondered why the Con would make people choose. But I’m over it.
You can tell just from talking to John that he’s kind of a ham, in a good way, and that was borne out by his behavior at the panel. (More on that later. Maybe.) He actually sort of reminded me of Robert Preston somehow (maybe it was the smile), which is never a vibe I’ve gotten from him as Walter Bishop on Fringe. But I’ve always like Robert Preston.
Reminder: If you care, you should check out my other blog at Watching CW, where I’m also blogging about different Comic Con stuff.
