Samantha Hears a Who
Next up is ABC’s Samantha Who?, a comedy about amensia. Really. They have this to say:
How would you like to rewind your life, erase all the mistakes and cringe-worthy moments and start over with a clean slate? It’s a common fantasy. But for Samantha Newly, the fantasy is far too real. After a hit-and-run car accident puts her into an eight-day coma, she wakes up with retrograde amnesia. She can function in the world, but she can’t remember a single fact about her own life!
If I understand it correctly, Samantha, played by Christina Applegate (looking very cute, btw), is a mean girl, and as a result, someone tries to kill her. The murder attempt doesn’t succeed, but instead the accident causes her to lose her memory. Samantha then has to find out about herself from her friends and family. What she finds out isn’t good, so she decides to reform her wicked ways. Probably before someone else tries to kill her. Hopefully, not the critics.
The clip I saw had that kid from 7th Heaven, apparently her boyfriend, whose name I can’t remember. If I ever knew it. OK, I’ll go look him up. Oh, right, Barry Watson. I don’t, however, see him on the site cast list, so I’m unclear what that means. They also changed the show title a couple of times, which can be a bad sign. Originally it was “Sam I Am.” Apparently this caused confusion with Dr. Seuss, so they changed it to “Samatha Be Good,” which, clearly, sucked. So now we have the new title, which one could argue might be confused with Doctor Who. But maybe not.
While the clip didn’t seem hilarious or anything, it did come across as interesting, so I’ll probably give it a chance. Provided I’m still awake. It airs Monday’s at 9:30 pm ET starting October 15.
Now, my question is, why is it that nasty people who get amnesia are suddenly good? Do they forget to be evil? I mean I’ve seen this premise before and I don’t get it. Why, if someone is evil, simply by losing their memory, do they suddenly become good?
Someone please explain this to me.
