Some Funky Music on American Idol

by

harrylisaWell, here we are again, another week of American Idol. I’m really not caring about the show too much this year. I can’t tell you how much I hate the judges’ entrance. Then the theme this week is Popular iTunes downloads. Hmmmm. I probably won’t know any of these songs since I am not much of a fan of top 40’s pop music. Why do I watch this show again? (Reminds me of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer quote, “We listened to aggressively cheerful music sung by people chosen for their ability to dance.” That’s what tonight is gonna be like, I can feel it.)

Oooh Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna. I like them at least.

Anoop Desai is up first singing some Usher song. Well, I have heard of Usher. Did Anoop just say “her body was so tight”? What?? I don’t know how he got clearance for this song. Personally, I hated it. I like music that sings and that song was just crap. I think Anoop is putting himself right out of this competition, both with his attitude and his song choices.

Megan Corkrey (I refuse to start calling her Megan Joy) is next. I have no idea what song this is and I don’t care. She just sounds terrible, she’s flat, and she pronounces all her words so strangely. All I can think is that the judges have to be wondering what they ever saw in her.

Danny Gokey is in third place this week and is singing some Rascal Flatts, What Hurts The Most. I’m no fan of country, either, but this is clearly the best so far tonight. Danny gets what neither Anoop or Megan seem to be able to grasp, that this is a singing competition and how well you sing actually matters. If you can sing well, the type of song is immaterial, cause people will like it. See, even the judges agree with me.

Allison Iraheta is playing the guitar and singing Don’t Speak by No Doubt. Now this song is actually on my playlist. Allison sounds great, although she isn’t playing around with the song, too much. It sounds pretty much like the original. I would have liked her to change it up a little more, but overall it was good. I would just like for her to stick around, cause I think she’s good and at this point, you have to pick it up a notch.

What did the stylist do to Scott MacIntyre’s hair? It’s not right that they keep playing around with the poor guy. Scott is singing Just The Way You Are, Billy Joel. Billy Joel is one of my very faves of all time and I’m afraid Scott is about to change that. Well, way to change things up, Scott, singing a slowed up, stripped down version of a song while at the piano. Laura is weeping beside me right now and asking me if we can please, please mute this. I don’t care what the judges say, this sounded the same as every other song he’s song so far. In my opinion, this guy sucks, he’s creepy, and I can’t wait for the day when he’s gone.

Matt Giraud is singing You Found Me, The Fray. I know this song, but I have to say I think Matt sounds better singing the soulful R&B stuff. I didn’t like that he was out there on the keyboard surrounded by randoms clapping and swaying, either. It was OK, but I don’t think it made him sound that great.

Lil Rounds is up next with I Surrender, Celine Dion. I am not a fan of Celine. Boy, reading this over it sounds like I don’t like any music, but that’s not true, I love most music, just not all the crappy stuff. Sorry, but this needs to be said: Lil’s butt looks incredibly, incredibly huge in that dress. Her voice sounds lovely, but I am distracted by the hair and the butt. I liked it but it was just a bit boring.

I’m sincerely hoping that Adam Lambert is gonna save the day, yet again with Play that Funky Music, Wild Cherry. Entertaining as always, he is having fun and he’s just amazing. Its like he’s on a whole different show. The Adam Lambert Amazingly Awesome Variety Hour. Hey, Fox, there’s a good idea for you and I won’t even charge you for it. Put that on after American Idol instead of the lame Osbournes thing you have scheduled.

In the pimp spot tonight, we have Kris Allen who sings Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers. He has traded his guitar for a keyboard and has his own little mini orchestra on stage with him. OK, I admit it, that was good. It has been weird with Kris, cause the first time we saw him, in the semi finals, I was captivated, since then he’s been just OK, but this was honestly his best.

The best of the night were Danny, Adam, Allison and Kris. Lil and Matt have been better but they weren’t the worst.

The worst were Anoop, Megan, and Scott. Scott or Megan should go home.

I have thought how wonderful it would be to have Adam Lambert on for an hour each week…wish someone would make our wishes come true.

That’s it, everyone sign up here for The Adam Lambert Amazingly Awesome Variety Hour. We can petition Fox. ;)
