Still in the Carpool

I enjoyed Carpoolers (ABC, Tuesday 8:30 pm ET) again this week. I know I’ve read some reviews that weren’t too keen on it, but I still think it’s good. Even when you don’t sit through an agonizing half-hour of Cavemen beforehand (which I most assuredly did not), it still comes across as funny. And when you compare it to some of the other new sitcoms this year, the script practically reads like George Bernard Shaw.
This week, the story focused on Laird, who borrows Gracen’s wedding ring in an effort to interest a girl who will only date married men, and Aubrey, who will do anything for some peace and quiet from his crazy home life.
What I don’t quite get is why Leila was so upset when Gracen wasn’t wearing his ring. My hubby and I have been married for 15 years and we both rarely, if ever, wear our rings. As a matter of fact, he lost his for about 2 years and it really wasn’t that big of a deal. I mean, we knew it was in the house somewhere, right?
I do totally understand Aubrey’s desire to spend some nice quiet time alone, though. It was pretty obvious, right from the start as Dougie followed him to the motel, that he was gonna be alone and not having an affair. I mean they have like 15 kids or something. Plus, you only ever see his wife (just her legs, actually) sitting in a recliner in front of the TV with dozens of screaming children careening about the room. I’d want a break, too.
One more thing I don’t get? Why would someone only be interested in married men?

Still haven’t seen Carpoolers yet…I’ll have to try to remember to catch it.
So tell me, is The Office considered a sitcom? I was wondering about that the other day while I was watching it.

I think so. I just don’t watch it. Although, apparently I should, cause I just found out that Joss Whedon has directed some of the episodes.

You should definitely watch it! Especially since you write a blog about sitcoms and this one is actually funny…unlike a lot of the other crap you’re sifting through.
