Strutting Down the Stairs on American Idol
It’s Rat Pack night on American Idol and I’m happy. I’ve always been a fan of the genre, although based on what we’ve seen from this group previously, its probable that I won’t recognize anything as sung by the Idols.
Ryan Seacrest tells us that the finale is in only three weeks. He then asks us which one of these five we think will be the next American Idol. My question is does anyone of those people really think they have a chance against the speeding locomotive that is Adam Lambert? I mean, honestly?
The mentor is Jamie Foxx. Um, OK. I’m not sure how he ties into the Rat Pack, but I’ll go with it. My friend Julienne just texted me, “How great would it be if they had an urn with Frank Sinatra in it?” I’m afraid I laughed for quite some time and was unable to even read the text to Laura. I’d like to bet that Frank’s ashes would probably be a better mentor than some of the people they’ve had on here this year.
First up tonight is Kris Allen singing The Way You Look Tonight. Kris did a good job but, honestly, he just kinda bores me now. I asked Laura and she feels the same way. So it’s not just me. I really have nothing else to say about him.
Allison Iraheta is next with Someone to Watch Over Me. Maybe she’s just trying to give her voice a little extra breathiness, but it’s coming across as weird phrasing. At least to me and Laura. But nevermind that, the girl can definitely sing. Once again, I’m feeling a strong Kelly Clarkson vibe. I think Allison is headed to the Top 3, but I really hope her fanbase feels the same way.
Here’s something scary, my mom just called and asked, what did Kris sing again? It does not bode well for him that not one of us could recall without my going back to my notes.
Matt Giraud is singing My Funny Valentine. We have a short discussion about whether or not anyone has tried this song since Constantine Maroulis absolutely killed it in Season 4. It was one of the only times the judges liked him. I’m sorry, but Matt is no Constantine. He just seems to somehow wimp out on the notes to me. OK, granted he hit the glory note at the end, but otherwise, I was not impressed.
In case you’ve forgotten, here is Constantine’s version:
We are taking a moment during the commercial break to discuss whether or not Danny Gokey has been consistenly pimped (me) or has not been pimped at all since the beginning (Laura) and why Adam Lambert is in the pimp spot, yet again (Jules) when Danny hasn’t been at all since the Top 13 (Laura). There is a lot of shouting and no clear winner.
Danny Gokey is up now with Come Rain or Come Shine. I am not a fan of the Gokey goatee, but you can’t really deny (unless you are being unreasonably stubborn) that the guy has some chops. That was probably the best I’ve heard from him, which I believe is what I said last week. This makes me realize that Danny’s getting better each week, instead of being the same week after week, like he was before last week. He actually sounds like he’s singing with the original Rat Pack; he just has that air about him, if you know what I mean.
It’s gotten very quiet in here, after all the shouting about Danny, but back to Idol.
We are finishing off the night with Adam Lambert (who admittedly does not need the pimp spot again) with Feeling Good. I’m pretty sure that I’ve never heard this song other than on American Idol, but I seem to recall a recent year when two people sang it on the same week. Adam appears to be flaming out a little tonight, something about the way he’s pronouncing his words, in a way that he hasn’t done before (at least not recently). That’s not necessarily a bad, I’m just saying. Oh, and talk about glory notes. That was the glory note to end all glory notes.
So who is going home? In my opinion Matt is by far the weakest. I think both Kris and Allison could be in trouble, but I don’t think Allison deserves it. Adam and Danny are completely and utterly safe, from now until three weeks from now at the Kodak.

No one can outsing Constantine on a lot of the songs he did in his season but Matt didn’t even outsing Scott Savol tonight. What was Simon smoking? Thanks for the flashback though..good times.
Are you sure Gokey hasn’t gone last? Well that would be the ultimate pimping then because they’re going to give him that spot when the numbers get lower and he needs it the most.

Nope, he has not since the Top 13. I have a list. Adam has gone twice and the last time was just two weeks ago.
I agree that they might be wiating to have Danny win the coin toss for the finale.

It won’t be the finale when he gets the pimp spot. It will probably be next week or the week after, when he’s competing with either Kris or Adam.
Has he ever sang directly after Adam? That would be an interesting angle to look into. Adam can be a hard act to follow so I’d like to know if he’s gone directly after him.
At this point I don’t think it really matters though. He’s picking up votes from the fans of the eliminated contestants so his train just keeps moving forward. There really is no accounting for taste with the rabid AI voters. *insert eye roll here*
Adam has a set fan base and they are not rabid multiple voters. I can’t see him picking up many more votes from other fan bases unless Allison get’s the boot. Her fans are the only ones I can see voting for Adam and I don’t think they are rabid voters either, she’s been in the bottom on more than one occasion. Adam may end up going before her though because she seems to be picking up more steam. What a surprise…a possible boy girl finale…just as predicted.
