Tall, Dark and Immortal

Alright, I did it. I re-watched the first four eps of Moonlight, and then I watched the fifth ep, which just aired on Friday. Twice. So now, I’m gonna be really upset if CBS suddenly yanks this show. Now, I’m invested.
I’ve started to re-think the whole lore issue, as well. One of the things which always kinda bothered me in the Buffyverse (and I feel really disloyal even saying this), is how things like holy water and crosses are supposed to be deadly to vampires. I mean, not everyone is Catholic and although I have the utmost respect for other people’s religious beliefs, it seems unreasonable that the way to overcome a vampire or other evil thing should be tied to the symbols of one particular religion. Or any religion at all.
Buffy/Angel (and many other vampire stories) focus on good vs. evil. Moonlight, however, is not about religion or about good and evil at all. There’s no indication that vampires, in general, are any more evil than anyone else. One is given the impression that vampires, like people, can be good or evil, and even then, that’s not the point. Moonlight is more about relationships, with the subtext, rapidly becoming text, of the relationship between Mick and Beth obviously forefront. I’m slightly worried about them getting together, especially so early on. I mean look at Moonlighting or Remington Steele, when the main characters get horizontal, oftentimes, you lose all the good tension that drives the show. But maybe, if it happens early enough in the series, it will change the focus from “how will these two get together” to “how to make a relationship between a vampire and a human work.” Or in trashy tabloid speak, “How to Make It with Your Vampire Man.”
Oh, and when I was watching the eps online, I also watched a little video they had called Meet the Cast. It turns out that Alex O’Loughlin has an Australian accent and Sophia Myles, British. Also she was in an ep of Doctor Who (The Girl in the Fireplace) which I really liked, but I never recognized her.
