True Blood Lacks Bite

by

I’m a serious fan of the vampire, but I don’t like my vampires to be too serious. As I think I’ve already explained. So I’ve been watching True Blood, but I just don’t know if this show has what I’m looking for.

The second ep of True Blood started like the first one for me. Meaning after a few minutes, I was totally convinced this show wasn’t for me. But then I kept watching and by the end, I knew I would be watching next week. I guess that may be because they end each ep in a little cliffhanger.

One scene I really enjoyed from the second ep was when Bill tried his mind control on Sookie and she acted at first like it was working, and then she just started laughing out loud at how ridiculous it was. That was great.

So then, this week, I watched the third ep. Generally, once I get this far into a series, I feel committed. Like I have to see it out to the end. Which may be what’s gonna happen here, but possibly not.

The third ep was a little slower paced than the first two, or at least it felt like it was. Sookie spent quite a bit of time thinking about and discussing whether or not she should stop seeing Bill. We also got to see a vampire nest. Clearly, these were not good guys and we are meant to dislike them, but they felt a little one dimensional to me. Like just black hat bad guys. I guess that’s OK, but I prefer more. Bill is definitely showing a scarier side, but he’s just a little serious for me. Remember, I like them not so serious. Um, I mentioned that, right? Also, Sookie needs to make up her mind, cause I can’t take a whole season of her indecision.

Buffy got a shout out this week, which is exciting, since that show’s been off the air for six years. It was just Sam wishing that a slayer would come to town and kill Bill, which would be fun, but I kinda think that Buffy would think of Bill as one of the good guys.

In any case, I may be over this show now. I’m just not sure. There’s just a bit too much sex, nudity and swearing for me. Maybe others think its all acceptable, but for me, it seems unnecessary. It would be nice if they could spend some of that time developing the characters more.

I guess I’ll know for sure next Sunday. You know, if I’m watching or not.
