What’s Popular on American Idol
It must be obvious by now to all but the slow student that I’m not a fan of all the extra fluff on American Idol’s elimination show. I wish they’d just get down to it and tell me who’s off instead of wasting an hour of my time showing me silliness. Well, I used to like the Ford commercial, but that was before this year. This one was just so-so.
Yay, Jason Castro in the audience. I miss him. Megan is such an idiot, waving at the crowd when Simon said she was one of the people who should be worried. Being obnoxious does not help your cause.
Idol is celebrating popular music so the group sings a Journey song. Cause you know how currently popular Journey is. If it’s 1982. *sigh* Anyway, of the Idols, the best voices for this type of song are Scott (though I hate to admit it), Anoop and Danny. Of course, Adam had to hit Steve Perry’s high note, since no one else could possibly have done so. Just one more reason to love the fabulous.
So now we get to the chop and cut part. No, wait, first we have to live through seeing the kids in various photo shoots. I guess it’s nice to see them be themselves (and see Matt mocking out Danny). I hated seeing the others mocking each other out, though. I was ready to change the channel at one point. But since I’m also DVRing Lost, I can’t.
OK, finally, on to eliminating someone. First up is Megan, Matt and Kris. Oh right, this is the week of nine Idols, when they are divided into three groups of three and you have to figure out which are the bottom three. (Not to be confused with the night of seven Idols when Adam Lambert is going to have to chose which group he belongs in, the one with Danny Gokey or the one with Lil Rounds - but that’s in a couple of weeks). Anyway, the first group is sent to the far right stage. Then Adam, Lil and Allison are put at center stage. Which leaves Danny, Anoop and Scott for the left stage spot. Interesting.
Next up we have a song by the current reigning Idol, David Cook. I’m sure it was great, but I mostly missed it since I had to call Laura, who couldn’t be here tonight, to tell her what was happening. I have a vague impression that it sounded just like everything else I’ve ever heard him sing.
Back to eliminations. Oh, wait, maybe there is a little twist to this. Ryan tells Kris he is safe, then fakes out Matt by making him think he is in the bottom three, but he is safe. Megan (who can’t seem to ever act normal) is in the bottom three. She caw-cawed her way over there. I’m certain she’s reading what they say over at VFTW now.
Lil Rounds is also safe. Allison is also in the bottom three. She doesn’t deserve to be. Adam Lambert is so very, very safe. You know, he looks like a freak, but acts normal, as opposed to Megan who looks fairly normal. Danny is next and he is also safe. So now it’s down to Scott and Anoop. (Quick glimpse of Jason sitting next to Alexis Grace behind Randy in the audience, yawning.) Anoop is the other person in the bottom three. Well, dialidol called that bottom three exactly. Let’s hope they got the bottom person right, too, and Megan goes home.
Now we have to sit through another guest song. This one is by Mama Yaya (OK, I know it’s really Lady Gaga, I just like my name for her better) and I am very, very unimpressed. I just don’t understand all these new fads. Suddenly, living in the 80’s with Journey makes so much more sense.
Thankfully, Ryan sends Allison back to the couches to safety first. Then the whole time Ryan is talking, building up to who is going home, Megan makes weird faces and looks like a complete fool. When he says “the person who came in at the bottom and faces elimination is Megan” and she cuts in with “It’s OK” before Ryan can say, “Anoop you are safe.” Megan then tell’s Anoop, “don’t forget to caw.”
There are a couple of caws from the other Idols, and then Simon tells Megan that the judges won’t be using their save on her, this will be her swan song. At the end, even admist her tears, while the other Idols stand around her on the stage awkwardly, Megan still manages to look up to smile and wave at the camera.
I think I’ve finally realized what it is that I really disliked about Megan, aside from the fact that she acted like an idiot and her voice grated on my nerves, it’s her attitude of I’m doing it my way and I don’t care what anyone else says or does or thinks. Some may say that’s a good attitude, I call it arrogant and its not attractive.

Okay, I don’t watch Idol very often (only the results show and only because nothing else is on) but what the heck is with Megan and the bird noises? Does she know how stupid she looked “flying” over to the eliminated stools?

Well I call that attitude just plain stupid and disrespectful. She was put through in that wildcard round by the same judges whom she basically dissed by saying she didn’t care what they thought. Since she never really had a large fan base on her side, she was voted out in the top 36 rounds, she needed the judges to like her to stay around and she just didn’t care. She made no effort to make it look like she even intends to persue a music career (thank goodness)…she just looked like she went on there for a “lark”. (excuse the bad bird reference)
Now while I’m usually all about the contestants standing up for themselves against undeserved negative criticism, hers was well deserved and she was pandering for votes from the very people who had made a big joke out of her. She made herself look stupid and crazy to the millions of people who weren’t in on the joke. And she helped to make a few of the other ones look stupid and disrespectful too by encouraging them to caw along with her. Watch for the early eliminations of Allison and Anoop in quick succession for going along with that cawing and basically thumbing their noses at the TPTB. You can bet they’re getting a good talking to today. There is probably going to be a new clause in the contracts next year of websites that you are not allowed to view during your time on the show. As for Megan…the only career she has ahead of her now is probably going to be in the porn industry.
When I think of the other people in that top 36 who really wanted a shot at a serious music career and they will never get that chance on Idol now because they let Megan the idiot through instead it makes me hate the premise of this show more and more.

Anne, its better of you don’t watch Idol too often. Its like being in an abusive relationship. You keep going back for more. As for Megan, she was a complete idiot from day one. I never saw what the judges saw in her, other than the fact that she was pretty, but this isn’t America’s Next Top Model, it’s American Idol and that girl could NOT sing.
Sanj, I totally agree with you about how disrespectful Megan was being. It’s one thing to be outrageous and funny, or even confident, its another thing to act like an idiot and show disrespect and arrogance.
