Where have all the funnies gone?
Just to be sure that the state of the sitcom sucks as much as I think it does, I checked out the situation on Saturday and Sunday, as well.
Nothing. Well, Sunday has all those cartoons on Fox, but I just refuse to acknowledge them as sitcoms.
So then I thought I’d check the cable stations, which I’ve been avoiding. FX has It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I’ve seen it. There’s too much swearing for me to find it funny, though. Then I checked TNT (they know drama) and came up blank. I got to TBS (”very funny”), and finally, I found something: 10 Items or Less, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, The Bill Engvall Show and My Boys. I know they aren’t all new, but since I don’t know much about any of them and the site isn’t too clear, I’ll just see what I can find out about each of them.
Here’s what the site has to say about 10 Items:
TBS is heading for the express checkout lane with 10 Items or Less, a new comedy series that combines scripted and improvisational elements. The series, created by acclaimed comedy improv actor John Lehr, goes behind the scenes at a family-owned grocery store being run by a host of interesting characters.
They have more to say, but it wasn’t interesting.
I watched some of the clips and they were funny, in an embarrassing way, if you know what I mean, but I’d watch it. Although, I’m normally not interested in embarrassing humor. I’m too easily embarrassed myself. I’m not positive, but I think the chick that plays the “beauty queen” is the same person who played Jan in the Brady Bunch movies. They were the stupidest things ever, but, you know, funny.

Well, they’re gonna try. Maybe it’ll be stuff like falling displays and people shoving meat in their pants - oh wait, that happened in Animal House.
