Who’s on First?
Samantha Who?, which aired it’s first ep on Monday night (ABC, 9:30 pm ET), wasn’t too bad. I mean, it was very nearly even funny. It definitely gets another week’s trial from me.
I was a little afraid, seeing some of the increasingly more populous preview commercials this past week, that it was going to be all about sex and nothing else. I hate that. I really do. When shows just end up being about people sleeping together and nothing else. I mean, other things do happen in the world, people! Let’s just focus on that for a bit. Look, I realize we can’t go back to the days when even married couples slept in separate single beds . . . (did that ever happen anywhere except on tv?) . . . but it feels like we’ve gone so far to the other side now. Obviously, tv does not reflect reality, but unfortunately, reality is continuing and increasingly attempting to mirror tv.
Wow, where did all that come from? I just got very far off topic there.
Back to Samantha. Aside from the fact that her parents and her friends were pretty annoying, I liked the relationship between Samantha (Christina Applegate) and her boyfriend, Todd (Barry Watson). I’m interested in seeing how that develops. The first ep wasn’t exactly what I expected, because I came away slightly confused as to what happened. By that I mean, what happened to Samantha to give her amnesia, but I’m sure that’s a plan. I know there was an accident, but other than that, no clue. I assume they are doing that on purpose, just to put you, as the viewer, in the same place as Samantha, not really knowing what’s going on.
I’ll definitely watch again next week. Seriously, I’m already interested enough that I wanna know what happens next. That’s a good thing.
